Nora Amath

National Manager of Refugee Settlement and CAMS Statewide

Dr Nora Amath is an educator, author, human rights advocate, interfaith leader and community developer whose research focuses on faith, multiculturalism, women’s leadership and empowerment and community development. From a young age, Nora’s life revolved around faith. Born after the Vietnam War, where an open practice of faith was now illegal, her Muslim dad, a well know religious leader, an imam, felt that they were no longer safe. Resettled in the US in the early 1980s as refugees, Nora’s challenging but passionate relationship with Islam saw her traverse across the ocean to study Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage at the International Islamic University in Malaysia, where she met her Australian husband. Together, they have 3 adult children, aged 23, 21 and 19. Nora’s faith journey has certainly evolved over the years, from a very personal expression, to a very communal and societal framework in which to live her life.
