WOW! – Queensland First Nation Women take to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall London
As a legacy of WOW at Festival 2018 two of Queensland’s leading First Nation women Mayor Vonda Malone from the Torres Shire Council and academic Dr Sandra Phillips, will participate in WOW London at the Royal Festival Hall on the 9th March in conversation with the founder and director of the WOW Foundation Jude Kelly. As well as participation in WOW London Mayor Malone and Dr Phillips will attend a range of high profile leadership events to celebrate International Women’s Day including a reception at Clarence House.
Executive Producer of WOW at Festival 2018 Cathy Hunt said ‘the 2018 event has been life changing for many women and girls - the impact has gone way beyond what first we imagined. From schoolgirls to grandmothers - from Torres Strait Islanders to farmers in the Channel Country. And to now have the voices of two leading First Nation women from Queensland as part of the international London event is a unique legacy for the State and its investment’
Mayor Malone and Dr Phillips will address the WOW Foundation and global audience on the issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls in Australia and the leadership that is required to make positive change for women, families and communities. They will assist the WOW Foundation in ensuring the voices and needs of First Nation women and girls continue to be included in the global WOW movement as it moves into its 10th year in 2020 and in discussing future WOW Festivals in Australia.
