WOW @ Bleach*
Bleach, the Gold Coast City Festival has grown into one of Australia’s most exciting and inspirational annual events. We are delighted to partner with this years Festival on two events which celebrate the strength, diversity and experience of women in the performing arts. On Friday 26th April at 3pm WOW Executive Producer Cathy Hunt will facilitate a conversation delving into a range of issues facing women working in the performing arts in Australia today. Using the Long Table format audience members will easily be able to join the participants the discussion, which will include special guests Artist Libby Harward, Artistic Director and CEO of Bleach Louise Bezzina, Danielle Caruna aka Mama Kin, and Artistic Director of Ten Days on the Island in Tasmania, Lindy Hume.
That evening and the following day Torres Strait Islander award winning artist and performer Ghenoa Gela will present the Queensland premiere of her energetic auto-biographical one woman show My Urrwai in The Space at HOTA . The title, from the Kala Lagaw Ya language of Western and Central Islands has no direct English translation but is a combination of ‘my spirit, my style, my essence’. Told through movement and words, this intimate story will make audiences laugh but also reflect on race relations in Australia today. After the 2pm performance on the Saturday audiences are invited to a Q&A session with the artist.
