We are looking for up to 80 volunteers to be actively involved in the very first WOW festival staged as part of a Commonwealth Games! 

WOW at Festival 2018’s panels, workshops, marketplace and performance program are supported by a proudly diverse volunteer team, with a focus on women genuinely keen to gain a variety of events experience.  WOW volunteers are required for two to three shifts each across the three-day event and its opening night, and importantly, receive an audience pass to enjoy the festival program before or after each volunteering period.

Volunteer FAQs

What are you looking for in potential volunteers?

We are seeking motivated adults and young adults (16+) seeking an event delivery team experience.  Volunteers will be required for two to three shifts of 4 - 5.5 hours each across the three-day event (6-8 April) and its opening night (5 April), all staged at Brisbane Powerhouse.  Core volunteering times are between 8.00am and 6.00pm, though you may choose to be available for a small number of earlier and later shifts.

What kind of volunteering activities can I expect?

Volunteers will play a vital role supporting WOW Brisbane’s diverse audience, 100+ speakers, 10+ venues and professional team with: registration assistance upon arrival; venue directions and program information; session coordination tasks including some resetting of spaces; and specific assistance based on experience/interests identified in your application.  Our aim is that through volunteering, you will interact with people and gain experiences you may not necessarily access outside this global festival.

Are there any incentives/acknowledgements for volunteers?

Volunteers will receive: a same-day audience pass to use before or after each volunteering shift; concession rate access to one-day audience passes on full festival days that they are not volunteering; a WOW t-shirt to wear at the event and keep; light snacks during a short break in each shift; and a written statement of service post-event. 

What is the process after I submit my application?

Applications will remain open until 2 March, and all applicants will be contacted via email regarding the outcome of their application by 9 March.  We may also clarify details of your application via email or phone between 2 March and 9 March.

What training/support can I expect?

All applicants selected as volunteers are required to undertake one of our 1.5 – 2 hour induction sessions the week prior to the festival, which will provide all necessary information about the venue, the program, and individual volunteer schedules and tasks.  Induction will also cover the WOW team’s expectations of volunteers particularly in relation to maximising the festival’s accessibility, protections for volunteers, and a range of practical matters like exactly what to do upon arrival each day.  At the end of the induction session, volunteers will be required to reconfirm their commitment by signing a volunteer agreement.  A Volunteer Coordinator will also be present to refer to throughout the festival.
