Maggie Shambrook

Community Work Practitioner

Maggie Shambrook is a community work practitioner in a perpetual state of learning.  This involves meeting the challenge of developing skills, and knowledge that align with her commitment to social justice and the practice of community development. Her aim is to align these values and apply them in many social and personal change contexts she has engaged with over the last thirty-six years.

This focus includes locality development, social research, community-based organisational management, project design and implementation, organisational development, advocacy, a community of intention development, and service delivery and consultancy work.

Maggie is most keenly interested in supporting the public expression of the voices of those affected by such issues as housing and homelessness, racism and discrimination, community transport, social and urban planning matters, earning an income, health, training, and education.  Maggie is a founding member of the Housing Older Women’s Movement or HOW Movement which is the voice of older women affected by housing insecurity. It aims to influence public policy and housing-related systems to ensure every woman in Australia has a safe, secure, affordable and amenable forever home.
