Sandra Philips

Associate Dean (Indigenous Engagement), UQ Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)

Associate Professor Sandra Philips has had a long and successful career in Australian book editing and publishing, later completing a PhD at the age of 44 to become a fulltime academic. Having worked with the University of Sunshine Coast in Indigenous Studies, Queensland University of Technology in Creative Industries, then with Jumbunna Institute of Indigenous Education and Research at the University of Technology Sydney, Sandra has returned to her alumni, The University of Queensland. 

Sandra is Associate Dean (Indigenous Engagement) at in the UQ Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). In this leadership role, Sandra works to improve Indigenous participation in university life and works to ensure greater appreciation of Indigenous peoples and knowledges across her faculty and in concert with Indigenous and non-Indigenous colleagues across UQ. Sandra has three adult sons and hails from the First Nations of Wakka Wakka and Gooreng Gooreng.
