Jerusha Mather

PhD Student, Victoria University

Jerusha Mather, currently pursuing her PhD at Victoria University, focuses her research on the intersection of strength training and non-invasive brain stimulation for adults with cerebral palsy. She has earned a career development grant from the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and is a distinguished recipient of the Bridge Create Change Award and the esteemed L'Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science mentee program. Jerusha also achieved recognition as an outstanding finalist in the Women's Agenda Leadership Award within the Health category.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Jerusha is a profoundly influential motivational speaker and poet, with her latest poetry collection titled 'Burnt Bones and Beautiful Butterflies' garnering acclaim. She stands as a prominent disability activist, advocating for medical students with disabilities, inclusive immigration, and accessible packaging and fashion. Her contributions to the STEM field have been acknowledged by the Australian Academy of Sciences, which has recognized her as one of the STEM change makers.

Notably, Jerusha's portrait graces Questacon, the National Science Centre, as one of the most outstanding female role models in medicine. Her online petition on change.com advocating for increased accessible packaging has garnered over 13,000 signatures, highlighting her commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. In her leisure time, she finds enjoyment in music and traveling.
