Simone Fullagar

Professor and Chair of the Sport and Gender Equity Research hub

Professor Simone Fullagar is an interdisciplinary sociologist and sports management academic who has published widely on issues related to gender inequality in sports, leisure, mental health, and well-being. Simone is Chair of the Sport and Gender Equity research hub in the Griffith Business School and Lead for the Inclusive Play theme in the Griffith Inclusive Futures: Reimagining Disability research program. She is currently working with colleagues on an Australian Research Council project titled ‘Outsiders in Sport’ that consider how legacy planning for the Brisbane2032 games can respond to the intersectional inequalities affecting sport participation. Simone is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, UK, and the only Australian recipient of the international Shaw-Manell Award for Leisure Research. Simone has been an avid women’s football fan since she started playing in the under-11 girls competition that was introduced in the 1970s on Sydney’s northern beaches.
