Dean Cooper

Violence Prevention Specialist, Griffith University

Dean Cooper is a Violence Prevention Specialist with the MATE Bystander Program at Griffith University delivering gender-based violence and respectful workplaces training across Australia. Much of Dean’s passion for working in this space comes from his experiences of playing rugby union and the problematic behaviours he participated in whilst in sporting environments. Dean has achieved a career working in various roles within the criminal justice system, in both metropolitan and rural Indigenous communities. His primary function has been interviewing and completing risk assessments to inform the rehabilitation of offenders convicted of violent and sexual offences. His passion for ensuring the safety of women and children led him to specialise in working directly with the perpetrators of Domestic and Family Violence via facilitating men’s behavioural change programs. Recently, Dean hosted the Behind the doors of domestic violence podcast in collaboration with the Queensland Police Service.
